Does Anyone Know the Definition of Irony?

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

We sure do!!!!

One Sunday morning in September last year I opened the store to what I thought was a bad joke (someone flooding the ‘rain wear store’) but it actually turned out to be the building’s hot water system and pipes, flushing its contents through the ceiling, down the walls and pipes and onto our beautiful turquoise hardwood floors! To my surprise all our inventory was unscathed by the whole incident!!!! Needless to say I was thinking of replacing the buckets to catch the water with a few pairs of Gumboots.

It has now been 10 months, the insurance red tape has been sorted, and now it’s time to repair the damage. We will be closing our doors Sunday July 26th, 2009 and re-opening sometime mid-August (we can’t set a concrete date as we are at the mercy of the contractors…and we all
know the story there) So, as soon as we know a re-opening date….we will let you know. Until then enjoy the rest of your Summer….and we’ll see you for all your back to school needs.

If you need a GumDrops fix in the meantime please visit our website at: www.gumdropsonline.com and all lower mainland customers who order online and use coupon code localfreeship will get local free shipping. So if you know of anyone who can’t or doesn’t get to  Kitsilano often please let them know FREE SHIPPING is available until  we re-open.

We will be blogging, tweeting, and yes face booking the fun and frustrating adventure of repairs, renovations and contractors……stay tuned……

Glastonbury Music Festival 2009

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

While watching the coming attractions before Sasha Baron Cohen’s latest film Bruno (not for the faint hearted), I saw a preview for Taking Woodstock, a comedy about how the iconic music festival began and it got me thinking about all our present day outdoor music festivals, the free living 70′s and how much of a contrast it is to the fast paced, instant gratification, jet fueled time we live in today!!!! Now inspired to feel the spirit, I did a little searching of our local festivals….as goes the way of the web I got completely sidetracked and stumbled upon the Glastonbury Music Festival (not quite at our back door), but a killer five day festival none the less, held every year at Worthy Farm in Somerset, England. The inaugural year began in 1970, the day after Jimi Hendrix died. Woodstock eat your heart out!!!

This year’s line up includes Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga and the newly reunited Blur, wishing I was there to experience the crazy chaos of the event, I attended the festival in my own virtual world of the internet and found some sweet photos of celebrities and random cuties wearing my favorite all time accessory and the must have accessory for mucking around the grassy mud pits of the festival grounds….rain boots!!!(or as they say in the UK, wellies!!!)
So for all of those out there who poopoo rain boots I say take a look at these wellies and tell me you are not a convert! I just might make the trek to Glastonbury in 2010 with my duckie yellow Hunters….until then PEACE OUT!!

GumDrops Private Label Rain Coats

GumDrops Private Label Rain Coats

As a few people know we had planned on launching our Private Label Rain Coat line in the spring….and as life would have it, we didn’t get to launch….so Fall 09 here we come!!!

With our first boutique sized production run of 15 rain coats hot off the press, my Monday morning began with the ability to actually see and feel our very own brand of VANCOUVER MADE rain coats. (I know Summer just started but I secretly hoped for just a sprinkle even for 10 min so that I could test out these bad boys.)  Now I need to get the word out. So I gathered the troops: Deena-Store Manager & Marketing, Laura-Project Manager, Heather-Coat Designer, Liz-Market Navigators and
Shanda (Me)-Owner, for a brain storming session on how to spread the news about our Breathable, Seam Sealed, Waterproof and yes, Fashionable Rain Coats!

As you can see from the pics our fun has begun with an awesome group of people who I appreciate greatly and thank them for coming aboard the sometimes bumpy, never grumpy GumDrops bus…….enjoy the journey……stay tuned for details about the fabulous launch party in September! (not too sure how to carry off the flip flop & trench coat look)

PS: you may follow our journey from concept to completion with our
tweets, blog, facebook fanpage, and e-newsletters. We’d love to hear
from you too……
