Photo Contest Winner Announced…

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

Congrats to our photo contest winner Sandra Graff who submitted a picture of London Kirsten and Tre in their color co-ordinated Hunter Wellys! It seems like a beautiful bright day to be wearing wellys but hey that’s my favorite thing about rain boots, there is never a bad time to wear them! Sandra will recieve a $75 Gift Card towards anything in the store, but I think all those boots could use a nice pair of welly socks! :)

Thanks to all those who submitted photos, we wish you luck next time!

“Vancouver In The Rain”

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

I was walking on Kits beach during that beautiful nice weather spurt last week which I have done many times because I live so close to the beach but for the first time I noticed this grimy looking rock laying beside the curve in the path. At first I thought it was just a weathered rock but then I realized there was a passage written on it. Now maybe many of you have read what is on this rock but after reading it I thought: I need to share this with my GumDroppers because this sums up everything I love about the rain and everything I love about Vancouver.

So here it is:
Vancouver in the Rain

(Regan D’Andrade, Dec 1999)

“Vancouver is famous for its rain. It can rain here for weeks on end, but it does not usually bother me. However, several years ago I found myself coming close to being thoroughly disgusted with the rain.

I walked home from work one evening in the pouring rain, mumbling under my breath the whole way that this weather was only suited to ducks. The building I lived in was large and square, and it surrounded a brick courtyard. I came around the corner into the courtyard and there, to my amazement, was a beautiful Peking duck in a huge puddle in the middle of the courtyard, quacking and splashing with obvious delight, I had to smile, glad that such joy can be found in the gray wetness of such a day.

I have often thought that we do not have nearly enough words for rain, especially as this was once a rainforest. There is booming rain, whispery rain, rain that lulls you to sleep, and rain on the leaves which sings you awake; there is soft rain, hard rain, sideways rain, rain that makes you instantly wet, and rain that leaves soft kisses on your cheek, like the wings of a butterfly.

Rain brings us all the shades of gray, but it also brings us the wonderful greenery that surrounds us and blesses us.”

Simple but true. I suggest next time your wandering Kits beach you find this rock and take a second to enjoy the weather, rain or shine and be thankful we live in such a beautiful city!

Check out the Kamik Janis boot cameos on contestants Lauren Alaina (who is my favourite besides the smirky country bumpkin Scotty!) & Naima Adedapo below:

Cobalt Hunters ♥ Spring!

Stay tuned for more Hunters to come, and yes.. That means black!!

Athletic Calves? There’s a boot for that.

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

Hello GumDroppers!

After a year of helping wet feet in need, I have noticed a very common issue amongst our shoppers.. Yes, it’s the case of the athletic calf vs the narrow boot.

So to eliminate this epic battle, here are a few styles I can suggest to you, and a few styles I would not recommend! (Gotta love shopping made easy)

Bog Elyse available in Blue, Yellow, and Black

The Bog Elyse is a new spring style, and we love the laces (I feel like a broken record, I know I have said this before!). Aside from stylish, the laces serve as your gateway to self-adjusting your boots to fit your calves.

Bogs Alex

We do not recommend the Bogs Alex if you have a more athletic calf. As cute as they are, the brim around these boots are definitely more narrow than most Bogs!

Huntress Wide Calf Wellies

Hunter has made a more “fem-fit” style boot. Some of you may not know that most Hunters are actually made unisex, which is why you might find they have a much different fit from most boots. A common thread amongst women is that they find the brim of the Original Hunters to be just a bit to narrow or they are just too tall! The Huntress have been lowered about an inch, and the brim has been widened. This changes the fit so the boot isn’t hugging the widest part of your calf, but still has that Hunter height.

Tretorn Skerry available in Black, Grey, Yellow, Olive, and Aqua blue

If you know a tall boot is just not for you, but still want some height, I have had much success with Tretorn Skerry to fill that need. The height of these boots are perfect to tuck in your jeans to keep dry, but it hits just below the wide part of your calf  (I should really get the scientific term for that part of the leg, hehe).

Kamik Ellie

We do not recommend the Kamik Ellie for our wide calf wonders. Although we love supporting a Canadian brand, and being able to recycle them is the cherry on top.. However Kamik is known for fitting on the narrow side both in foot and leg, and they are a little more appropriate for a slender leg and narrow foot. But! Don’t lose Canadian support hope, they have made two styles that offer more room in the foot and leg.

Kamik Elizabeth

Kamik Heidi

The Kamik Elizabeth fits wide in the leg, and foot. Stay tuned for the Kamik Christina, the solid color version on the Kamik Elizabeth for our more modest shoppers.

The Kamik Heidi still fits a little more narrow in the foot and leg, however the height will help you fit into them comfortably, while fitting jeans in.

Wishing you all luck in your choices! And remember we are always here for you to answer any questions, squash any doubts, and provide detailed explanations.  You can reach us toll free 1-800-418-4637 or via email goody@gumdropsonline.com

Why We Love: New Spring Arrivals

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Wednesday greetings, everyone.

Spring is upon us, which means behind every sunny day hides a rainy one. And if your rain boots look anything like mine, it’s time to pick out a pair (or two, or three) of Spring boots. We’ve received tons of new arrivals from Bogs, Dav, Hunter, and Tretorn. Here’s a few favorites, and why we love them:

Bogs Elyse in Blue

Why we love them: The Spring Bogs are surprisingly light weight, and comfortable. We love the colour, and the lace ups.

Dav Victoria Mid Pyramid in Black

Why we love them: Black, with great detailing. The height still provides puddle jumping coverage, while still adjustable to fit any calf.

Hunter Gardinia in Navy

Why we love them: It’s a printed Hunter for $165, enough said.

Tretorn Skerry in Yellow

Why we love them: We love the cheerful yellow, and classic Tretorn style!

Check out the rest of our new spring arrivals, or click the images above for more details.

Last Lucky Last: Bog Taylor Dahlia Green!

Monday, March 7th, 2011

So we have been doing the Lucky Last Pair Blog Posts for over a month now and if you can believe it we have almost featured all the lucky lasts! So don’t worry we will keep you updated on any new additions, but don’t expect to see “Gumdrops Wet Weather Boutique: Lucky Last Pair!” on your Facebook news feed everyday!

But I shall treat you all to one last lucky pair (for now :) )…the Bog Taylor Dahlia Green! I have mentioned them before and I think by now we all know there temperature rated to minus 40, they have an anti slip sole, slight arch support and are anti-microbial but I think my favorite thing about these boots is the pattern! The Green flowers are so fun, and mixed with the polka dots, it gives the boot just that something extra that will have everybody staring at your boots and asking you where you got them from!

I know its getting warmer out but just think about next fall and how these boots wont be around for this price again so get um while there hot!

Available in Size 6 & 10

Lucky Lasts: Sperry Hingham Black size 9 & 11

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Hello hellooo

Today’s lucky lasts are much needed.. Doesn’t look like the rain is going to let up any time soon. Looking at the spring window display, it seems like a bit of an oxymoron against the gray skies out there.  But what better way to roll with the punches (er.. droplets?) than a pair of 50% off boots?

Today’s boots are for all my black boot lovers out there. If you’re like me, I can’t stray from black or gray for my boots.. Boring as black may be, there are ways around it. The Sperry Hinghams, for example. I bought these boots not too long ago, and love them. They have a quilted upper (lined with polar fleece), and buckle detailing- making them more than just a black boot.

So if you are a size 9 or 11, check them out in store or online. A steal at $55.
